Question: Why do I have multiple “ExceLINX” menus in my Microsoft Excel program? Which one should I use? How do I get rid of the duplicate menus?

Answer:

More often than not, the reason for multiple ExceLINX menus is that ExceLINX has been reinstalled without being properly uninstalled first; each installation will add menus to the Excel environment. Therefore, you should first completely uninstall ExceLINX. Follow the instructions below for uninstalling and reinstalling the version of ExceLINX that you have:

ExceLINX-1A for Models 2700, 2750 and 2701 : Use the Add/Remove Programs feature of the Control Panel to remove the following items: (1) ExceLINX-1A, (2) Keithley 2700 Series IVI Driver, (3) Keithley I/O Layer, (4) NI Visa x.x.x Runtime. After removing these components, reboot your PC. Then reinstall ExceLINX. You must reinstall from the CD. Then, you may install any upgrades you have downloaded from the Download Center on the Keithley web site. For more detailed instructions on uninstalling and reinstalling ExceLINX-1A, please review the Release Notes.

ExceLINX for Models 6485, 6487 and 6514: Use the Add/Remove Programs feature of the Control Panel to remove the following items:  (1) ExceLINX-2A, (2) Keithley Model 6485 IVI Driver, (3) Keithley I/O Layer, (4) NI Visa x.x.x Runtime. After removing these components, reboot your PC. Then reinstall ExceLINX. You may install the software from the CD or from a free web download. All available downloads ExceLINX-2A are available from the Download center on the Keithley web site at www.keithley.com. For more detailed instructions on uninstalling and reinstalling ExceLINX-2A, please review the Release Notes.

After reinstalling ExceLINX, you may still observe multiple ExceLINX menus in Microsoft Excel. To get rid of these menus, use the “Find” feature of Windows to locate the “Excel.xlb” file. Delete this file. After doing this only the default Microsoft Excel menus will be shown; it may be that not one ExceLINX menu appears.To enable the ExceLINX menu, go to the Tools menu and select “Add-Ins”. Locate ExceLINX 2.0 in the list.Uncheck the box next to this entry and press the “OK” button.Go back into the “Add-Ins” selection box and recheck the box next to the ExceLINX 2.0 entry.One useable ExceLINX menu should now appear.
